Born: William Young (Dan) McDaniel Jr. on May 20th 1956 in New Orleans, Louisiana
Dan was raised in Mobile, Alabama by parents William (Bill) Y. McDaniel and Claris Lenora Macon McDaniel. Dan is the oldest of 5 children (three brothers and one sister). He attended public primary school in Denver, CO, Davidson High School in Mobile, and graduated from the University of South Alabama in1980 with a Business Marketing/Management Degree.
Dan showed an early entrepreneurial spirit even at the young age of 13 working hard as a bicycle route, Denver Post, delivery boy while maintaining a neighborhood lawn care business. In 1971 (age 14) he was awarded a certificate of achievement from the Denver Post for his paper route business.
Dan worked nearly nine years in Denver from 1982-1990 as a Geophysical Seismic Data Broker primarily with exploration divisions of major oil and gas companies.
Today Dan is president and CEO of Advanced Detection Security (ADS) of Mobile, INC. Located on Cottage Hill Rd. in West Mobile. ADS was founded in Aug 1990 and has been an established business in Mobile for nearly 25 years. Dan is the qualifying agent and license holder for commercial and residential video, fire and security. His company specializes in affordable electronic security and fire detection solutions – primarily in the commercial retrofit and monitoring service market. ADS serves thousands of clients in South West Alabama.
Dan is involved in community service. He has been an active member of Dayspring Baptist Church for the past 10 years. He has also been a member of Gideon’s International for the past 30 years. Dan has been a local member of CBMC for fifteen years and the Mobile Kiwanis Club for 20 years, serving as president in 2009 and 2010. Dan is currently a member of Rotary International, The Mobile Chamber of Commerce, Mobile Home Builders Association, Electronic Security Association, the Alabama Alarm Association where he served as president in 1998 and 1999, and the Electronic Security & Technology Association (ESTA).
In 1992, Dan married Ansley Bryant. They have two boys, Justin (20) and Jeremy (18). The boys currently attend high school at Cottage Hill Christian Academy. He also has two grown children, Kevin and Christina, from a previous marriage. He’s also the proud grandfather of two girls, Lauren and Asha.
